Help / Tutorial
Welcome to Bare-Science! This page will help you get started with reading and posting reviews on our website.
On the main page you will see one main search button. This will allow you to search for keywords, specific authors, publication’s names or their DOI. Let’s try searching for the keyword Cancer.
You can narrow the search by choosing a specific time window and you will see that the article results list will change to only articles between January 1st 2015 and December 31st 2016:
You can also choose to see the results according to the most relevant or in ascending/descending chronological order:
To narrow down your search you can also concatenate keywords in the search field by writing both the author’s name and journal. You can also use quotation marks to search for specific expressions. For example, you can type the words cancer and therapy in the search box but if you would like to search specifically for those two together you can write them in quotation marks, i.e. "cancer therapy", to find titles that include both of those words together.
If you choose a publication that has not yet been reviewed you will be taken to the following page:
If the paper has already been reviewed, you will encounter something more like this:
In either cases, if you have not yet registered/logged in, you will not be able to post a review but will see at the bottom of the page a request to log in.
If you have not signed up yet, please do so now. Remember that one can only register with an academic e-mail address. That does not necessarily mean an “.edu” e-mail address. We have a very extensive list of academic domains from universities and research institutions allover the world. If you find that your institutional e-mail was not accepted please contact us and we will look into this matter as quickly as possible.
At the sign up page, please fill out the screen name you would like to use, this will be visible to other users and does not need to be your real name. Your e-mail address however will not be publicly visible.
Once you have signed up, if your e-mail domain is accepted, you will receive an e-mail confirmation with a verification link. Click on it and your account will be finalized.
Once you have an account, you will need your sign up e-mail address to login in the future.
Once you’ve logged in, you will see a page showing your chosen screen name, your posted comments and votes you’ve received for your contributions.
If you go back to the paper you wanted to rate you will see that the page looks very similar but at the bottom you can now view the post comment/question tabs with all the rating options.
Now you can start rating papers!
If you would like to rate a paper, you will be required to write a comment to explain your rating. You may rate all five categories although you do not have to rate all of them. However, you are required to rate at least one.
If something about the paper is not clear and you would like to ask a question to the author or the community, you can also post a question which will not require you to give any ratings and will look something like this:
You can add tags to your comments/questions such as "Figure 2" or "Methods" to indicate a specific part of the paper you would like to highlight. Once created, these tags will show up below the article title and can be ticked by future users to help narrow down the comments/questions they would be interested in seeing associated with that specific tag.
We hope you found this useful and please do not hesitate to contact us should you have any questions or suggestions.
All the best,
